According to the legend, Avalokiteshvara made a vow that he would not rest until he had liberated all beings from suffering. He became despondent when he realized the enormity of his task and his head split into thousands of pieces.

Amithaba Buddha put the pieces back together as a body with eleven heads to help him see suffering more easily.

This pendant is worn for freedom from suffering.
